If you decide to upgrade your conventional analog surveillance system to High Definition, you may be confused about which HD-over-coaxial technology to choose. There are 3 different technologies – CVI, TVI and AHD.

AHD is a new analog video transmission, recording and displaying technology. It uses an open standard chip-set from a third party manufacturer – Nextchip.

AHD Technology

AHD Resolution

AHD Transmission Distance

AHD is an analog high definition closed-circuit television video surveillance standard that uses traditional coax cable (RG59 or RG6) to transmit HD 720p or 1080p video from security cameras to DVRs. Using this technology installers can upgrade their analog CCTV systems to high definition without replacing all existing cables.

Unlike HD-CVI and HD-TVI, AHD doesn’t degrade over long cable distances. This makes it a good choice for surveillance applications in which image clarity is paramount.

However, in order to reach these long distances the coax cable quality must be top notch. We recommend installing a quality cable with an RG59 or RG6 rating of no less than 5C-2V. This will allow for maximum cable lengths of 500 meters LOS.

We also offer amplifiers that can be installed on either the camera or DVR end of a cable run to boost the signal and increase the max cable distance. The AMP-101HD is one such product. A single AMP-101HD can boost the signal of an AHD, HD-CVI or HD-TVI camera up to 1500 meters / 5000 feet and for HD-SDI cameras up to 1200 meters / 4000 feet.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to run cables at all we can offer a wireless AHD transmitter and receiver with a radio transmission range of up to 500 meters. The system works on the 5.8GHz ISM Smart WiFi Camera band and does not require a license to operate. It can be used to connect work cameras to a monitor in elevator shafts or other locations where pulling wires is impossible.

AHD Compatibility
